Approx. 1 hour walk to reach the end or can go for miles further walking around Bacton Woods, Pigneys Wood or Paston Way. Warning - There is a short amount of road work, please be careful

  • At the bottom of the yard turn left.
  • Follow the road until the end where you get to the T-Junction.
  • Turn right at the T-Junction and keep following the road. (Walk across the village green to reduce the road walk) WARNING ROAD WALKING
  • Just before the humpback bridge, turn left into Tavern Tasty Meats.
  • Head behind the building which is situated next to Tavern Tasty Meats and you will see a track going behind it following the canal. (You have now joined on to the Access Map underneath where it says ‘SWAFIELD’
  • Stay on the left hand side of the canal and keep following for nearly 1 mile until you get to a road.
  • Cross the road and carry along the canal. (WARNING ROAD)
  • As soon as you come across the bit where you can cross the canal cross over onto the right hand side (It’s a large sandy break in the canal).
  • Carry on following the canal until you come across a lock and some machinery (Be careful around the lock as it is a steep drop down to the water).
  • Keep alongside the canal and follow round to the bridge. Here you will come out onto a small road.
  • Turn left and go over the bridge.
  • Go past the house on your right and you will see an old war pill box.
  • Turn right here and you will see your back on the canal.
  • Carry on along the canal to the end and you will get to the old mill.
  • When you reach the end you can either turn around and come home or head down the footpath which heads into Bacton Woods. There is a gate to the left just before you get to the end of the canal where there is miles of further walking or you can walk down Paston Way, and Pigney woods too (See Map) There is some pubs you could always take a visit to, to refresh!!
